6 Places in Onslow County Where You Can Still Volunteer This Holiday Season

    1. Christmas Cheer
    is a program which aims to collect and distribute toys, food and other miscellaneous items to local families in need of extra assistance during the holiday season. Duties of volunteers include sorting food and toys, setting up and breaking down site, distribution and more. Currently, the program still has multiple shifts available for those who wish to lend a helping hand.  They are looking for Family Escorts, Food Assistants, Toy Assistants and Cheer Assistants.     2. The Salvation Army
    Did you know, The Salvation Army program assists 25 million people each year? Onlsow’s local Salvation Army program works year-round to provide clothes and goods to the community, supports Veterans Affairs, Elderly Services and more. Often, the program looks for friendly volunteers to assist with the maintenance of the thrift store location as well as a variety of other duties; however, monetary donations are accepted as well.     3. Onslow County Animal Services
    Prefer to spend the holiday season caring for a furry-friend? Onslow County Animal Services is always seeking volunteers to help feed, walk and groom stray animals. If you would rather take to the stores and do a little extra Christmas shopping, toys, accessories and supplies are also welcome by the organization.     4. Onslow Soup Kitchen
    is a well-known program, which has provided meals to over a thousand food insecure people living in Onslow County.  Currently, the program is looking for drivers in the Onslow area.     5. USO
    is seeking donations this holiday season for the purpose of providing military service members with hygiene kits and a monthly gift.     6. Onslow Women’s Center
    Did you know, due to increases in financial and family pressure during the holiday season, there is global spike in domestic abuse cases during the winter months? Volunteering at the Jacksonville Women’s Center is a great way to help abused women get back on their feet, and will give you an overwhelming sense of community. Jacksonville’s center is currently seeking a volunteers for a variety of different jobs.
